Get to know more about Anna
Anna Virk, MS, MHC-LP, is a New York Mental Health Counselor (Limited Permit) who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Queens College (CUNY), where she developed a strong foundation in understanding social systems, inequality, and human behavior. She also earned a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Molloy University, with training focused on evidence-based approaches, trauma-informed care, and culturally responsive practices.
Prior to her current role, she worked as a social worker, gaining experience supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. This background continues to inform her clinical work, allowing her to take a holistic approach that considers both clients’ internal experiences and the broader social and cultural contexts shaping their lives.
What should a new client know about working with you?
A new client should know that I prioritize creating a safe, nonjudgmental, and collaborative space where you can feel comfortable being open and honest. I take a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach, meaning I am mindful of how past experiences and identity shape your current challenges and strengths.
My style is warm and supportive, but also intentional—I will gently challenge patterns when needed to help you gain insight and move toward meaningful change. I value building a strong therapeutic relationship and believe that trust and consistency are key parts of the process.
You can expect our work together to be paced in a way that feels manageable, while still encouraging growth. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions, my goal is to support you in developing deeper self-understanding, healthier coping strategies, and a greater sense of control in your life.
Process for Working With Clients
My process begins with an initial assessment, where I take time to understand your background, current concerns, and what you’re hoping to get out of therapy. This includes discussing relevant history, identifying patterns, and, when appropriate, using brief screening tools to better understand symptoms such as anxiety or depression.
From there, we collaboratively develop goals that feel meaningful and realistic for you. I tailor my approach based on your needs, often integrating evidence-based practices with a trauma-informed and culturally responsive lens. Sessions typically involve exploring thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, while also building practical coping strategies you can use outside of therapy.
As we continue working together, I regularly check in on your progress and adjust our focus as needed. I also incorporate ongoing assessment to track changes over time and ensure that our work remains aligned with your goals. Overall, the process is collaborative, flexible, and centered around supporting your growth in a way that feels both safe and effective.
