What should a new client know about working with you?
My connection to my LGBTQIA+ identity influences much of my work as I am attuned to identity development, building community, and affirmative care. A commitment to social justice and multiculturalism have informed my decision to become a mental health counselor. This shows up in my work as I aim to empower clients to understand themselves within the greater social and cultural context.
Process for Working With Clients
I find value in taking time to develop a trusting and safe therapeutic alliance with new clients through a collaborative exploration of their presenting concerns, identity, and experiences. I aim to create a compassionate and non-judgemental space where clients feel heard and affirmed. My approach to counseling emphasizes collaboration between client and clinician. I use a integrated approach tailored to the unique needs of each client, often incorporating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Relational Therapy. I believe that my role as a counselor involves supporting clients to deepen their understanding of themselves and to build on their skills so that they may feel empowered to face challenges in their lives.
