Get to know more about Samantha
Samantha Medina-Kishner, MA, MHC-LP, has joined the clinical team at Dr. Fallon's Practice, and we're thrilled she is here! Samantha is a New York State Mental Health Counselor (Limited Permit) who earned her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Baruch College in New York City, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Samantha is a passionate puzzle solver-not just puzzles of cute dogs and pretty houses, but the puzzle of how all our experiences and relationships come together to create our lives. Like puzzles, Samantha believes everyone already has the pieces to become whole; sometimes we just need help putting them all together.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Samantha takes a holistic approach to therapy, recognizing that both the mind and body are important pieces in healing and recovery when it comes to mental health. Samantha incorporates a diverse range of techniques that include Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Internal Family Systems to help each individual find healing in a way that works best for them. Samantha incorporates her advanced training in somatic techniques, in the form of mindfulness, breath-work, and grounding exercises, to guide clients in gaining back control over their bodies and minds.
Process for Working With Clients
Samantha works with each client, as a team, to reduce the symptoms that cloud the unique and powerful individual underneath. As part of her somatic approach, Samantha became EMDR-certified to help individuals process and heal from deeply rooted trauma that impacts their daily lives. Recognizing the effectiveness of EMDR as an evidence-based approach, Samantha works to provide clients with a powerful method to reprocess distressing memories and negative beliefs and achieve lasting emotional relief. Samantha's passion lies in offering a therapeutic approach that empowers clients to overcome their pain, build resilience, and experience transformative change.
Samantha cherishes the importance of the therapeutic relationship and believes that it can be used to learn skills, develop insight, and empower individuals to lead happier and more fulfilling lives.
Especially when it comes to trauma, Samantha knows the value of having a safe, nonjudgmental, and empathetic space to explore and heal from our pasts. Whether you're experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship troubles or the effects of past trauma, Samantha is determined to help you feel freer and happier throughout our process of therapy together.
Samantha’s goal is that as the therapeutic relationship grows, your bag of puzzle pieces becomes a clear image of your passions, love, insight, and self-compassion
