Abby Wise, MA, ED.M, MHC-LP

Columbia University trained psychotherapist, Abby Wise, MA, ED.M, MHC-LP has joined the team and Dr. Fallon’s Practice is thrilled to welcome her aboard! Abby is a New York State Mental Health Counselor (Limited Permit) with dual master’s degrees in the fields of mental health counseling and psychological counseling from Teachers College, Columbia University where her academic areas of interest included Multicultural Counseling, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Psychodynamics.

 

Abby’s passion and excitement for the field of mental health along with an impressive professional journey in community building informs her approach to therapy and clinical care. Abby values helping people find their voice and to make positive changes in their lives. With a curiosity about human development Abby can help you face and process past and present feelings and emotions to reclaim your future.

 

Abby’s rigorous academic journey has given her the tools to confidently work with diverse clients seeking help with a wide scope of concerns including relationship difficulties, self-esteem and self-compassion, and loss and trauma. Abby is sensitive to reconciling different facets of clients identity that may be leading to internal conflict including those related to gender roles, sexuality, and beliefs about mental health.

 

Abby has experience in helping adults through life transitions such as career changes, post college, marriage, divorce, and family planning. Abby has experience working with those who struggle with eating disorders, depression, and anxiety disorders. A focus of our therapeutic work will be to redefine your goals and values, build confidence, and increase coping skills.

 

Abby’s approach to therapy and relationship building with her clients is grounded in her dedication to creating a comfortable and safe therapeutic space for her clients, which is crucial to helping them foster a deep understanding of themselves. Abby is excited about helping clients understand their narratives while also helping them to reduce their emotional distress. Her style is warm, empowering, and practical.

 

Abby draws from both Narrative Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to empower clients to create new life paths. Through a multicultural approach, she works with clients of diverse backgrounds who struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, and identity to achieve their goals. Abby values being able to be brought into your world and knows this work is incredibly personal. It is an honor to hear your stories and provide you with support and help through life. Abby enjoys arming people with coping skills to work through difficulties. At the heart of Abby’s therapeutic work is her deep commitment to inclusion and social justice.
