Tanvi Malhotra, M.Phil.Ed., M.S.Ed., MHC-LP, University of Pennsylvania trained psychotherapist,  has joined our team and we truly couldn’t be any happier that she is here! Tanvi is a NYS Mental Health Counselor (Limited Permit) who joins the team with double master's degrees in the fields of mental health counseling and professional counseling. Her impressive scholastic achievements speak to her deep dedication to learning in the fields of psychology and mental health. Tanvi was a recipient of merit-based scholarships throughout her graduate years at the University of Pennsylvania, earned a BA in psychology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Studies and Research from Ashoka University where she graduated with the prestigious distinctions of Cum Laude and Summa Cum Laude. Tanvi’s impressive academic accomplishments, deep dedication to the field of mental health, along with her warm, open, non-judgmental and empathetic demeanor inform her work as a psychotherapist and as a valued team member at our practice!

Tanvi views therapy as a client-driven process and seeks to meet her clients where they are. She believes her clients are the experts in their lives, and that she is here to support them in their journey. Tanvi aims to build strong and collaborative relationships with her clients as the therapeutic relationship is a determinant of growth, progress, and success in therapy. Tanvi strives to create a safe, warm, and non-judgmental space where her clients are able to feel secure and be their authentic selves.

Tanvi uses an intentionally eclectic blend of therapeutic approaches tailored to each client’s unique needs, desires, and goals. Tanvi is inclined to use an insight-oriented approach and pull from psychodynamic, attachment, and relational theories from time to time. As a result of this, Tanvi’s work with clients centers around exploring the impact of their early life experiences and relationships on how they interact with others and view the world. As a South Asian woman who has lived in both India and the U.S., Tanvi believes that the environment one has grown up in, one’s sociocultural background, and the broader social context influence how they perceive the world around them. These factors may also impact the therapeutic space. As a result, Tanvi strives to be mindful of them and the key aspects of a client’s identity, such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and related backgrounds and considers them to be influential factors in their work together.

Tanvi is passionate about working with BIPOC populations, individuals with marginalized identities, and clients who have lived through traumatic experiences. She has experience working with these populations and approaches therapeutic work from a trauma-informed lens. In doing so, Tanvi helps her clients to process difficult experiences, better understand their emotional and behavioral responses, and discover the resilience and inner strength to cope. Tanvi has also worked with clients struggling with life transitions, relationship concerns, substance use, self-esteem, and stress management. Tanvi’s cultural background also guides her interest in working with struggles related to acculturation, immigration, and managing intersectional identities. Tanvi is a bilingual clinician, fluent in English and Hindi, and invites the opportunity to provide therapeutic services in either language.
